Ready for Science: I Can Run introduces young readers to the ways in which animals run.

With easy-to-understand language, real-life photographs, and a simple end-of-book activity, the Ready for Science series offers beginning readers the opportunity to develop awareness for plants and animals, grow their love and respect for nature and the environment, and strengthen their early literacy skills.

The Ready for Science series of leveled readers support Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) while fostering understanding of basic science concepts for early readers. Each book promotes beginning reading skills, teaches science vocabulary, and fosters curiosity about the world around us. Also included is a photo glossary and reading comprehension activity that helps readers apply what they learned.

PreS-Gr 2–These titles begin with a photo glossary and list of high-frequency words. The texts provide a predictable, easy-to-follow pattern. Attractive photos fill the pages. Labels identify glossary terms. The activity page at the end of each book is useful for the classroom. There are discussion questions, teacher read-alouds, and ideas for writing or art projects, as well as encouragement to reread the book. Students can create a poster about recycling or a chart about pushes and pulls to demonstrate their understanding. Make It Move depicts children from different ethnic and racial backgrounds pushing swings, tugging on ropes, or rolling wagons.
